HUNTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
DEVYN S. KEITH
Huntsville City Council member Devyn S. Keith has represented District 1 of Huntsville since 2016. This district covers much of Northern Huntsville, including Alabama A&M University, and stretches into the downtown core.
Devyn was born & raised in Huntsville. He got his undergrad degree from Samford University in Birmingham, playing on the football team for a scholarship. In Birmingham he took concern for youth who aged out of state support services, and started a nonprofit to educate, empower and advocate for such people.
He received his Master's in Public Administration at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and in the process developed working relationships with federal, state, and local leaders, learning innovative ways to effect change with tangible impact. He passed on opportunities in Boston and D.C. in favor of returning to North Huntsville and building his hometown.
Two consecutive years in the past, he has been elected by fellow council members as president of the council. He is the youngest to serve as legislator or president of the legislation of the city of Huntsville. He has moved around within his district, so that he can honestly say he represents every corner of it.
His main goals are to reduce crime, increase property values, invest in infrastructure, and to enhance a vibrant quality of life for all of District 1 by increasing civic management and moving common sense, progressive policies forward. He believes in transparent, citizen-accessible, and diverse government. He works every day to create viable solutions to the issues impacting his community.

JOHN MEREDITH
Huntsville City Council President John Meredith is the son of civil rights icon James H. Meredith, the first African American to enroll and graduate from the previously segregated University of Mississippi.
John’s first career was as a laboratory technologist. While managing a hospital-based clinical lab in Kansas, John participated in a Washington fly-in as a member of the clinical lab manager’s association to lobby against a bill that would eventually have a profound negative impact on the delivery of services to patients. He found the process fascinating and, after securing a master’s degree a year later, rededicated his professional efforts to government.
